We have developed image guided surgery (IGS) system and analyzed its accuracy. In IGS system, to begin with, we have to perform registration procedure, matching the 3D axis of the physical space to that of the image space organized by CT or MRI medical images. In this procedure, best transformation matrix for rotation, translation and scaling is obtained for some landmark points of each space, through linear transformation and making the minimal RMS (root mean square) error. The final calculated RMS error, called FRE(fiducial registration error), can be used to predict the working accuracy of the system together with the placement configuration of the fiducial markers. In this paper, we measured the working accuracy, which is also called as TRE(target registration error) to assess the accuracy of the system. Comparing the TRE and calculated FRE, we discussed the usefulness of FRE in the prediction of working accuracy (TRE) of the system. With best configuration of fiducial markers, the best TRE was 1.33 mm and FRE was less than 1mm, which are comparable to the pre-existing commercial systems.
